Turning poetry into a spatial experience
For Nicoverken and Sparta Rotterdam, Beewan Sports designed a skybox inspired by one of Rotterdam's most iconic cultural figures: Jules Deelder.
Rather than creating a traditional hospitality space, the ambition was to translate the atmosphere, character and identity associated with Deelder into a distinctive environment within Het Kasteel.
The result is a space where hospitality and storytelling come together, creating an experience that feels unmistakably Rotterdam.

CONTEXT
Many hospitality spaces offer comfort, functionality and a good view of the pitch.
What they often lack is a sense of place.
As a result, environments can feel interchangeable, disconnected from the club, the city and the people they represent.
For Sparta Rotterdam, the opportunity was to create a space that reflected a deeper layer of identity – rooted not in football alone, but in the culture of Rotterdam itself.
THE MOVE
The design draws inspiration from Jules Deelder, the poet, writer and lifelong Sparta supporter whose presence became inseparable from the city.
Following his passing, Sparta introduced an all-black third kit as a tribute to Deelder and his enduring connection to the club.
Building on this gesture, the concept Ode aan de Nacht was developed.
A fully black interior environment became the foundation of the design, creating a space defined by contrast, depth and atmosphere.
Materials, lighting and graphic elements were carefully composed to evoke the sharp, rhythmic and uncompromising character associated with both Deelder and Rotterdam.
The Sparta identity appears in subtle ton-sur-ton applications, embedded within the environment rather than applied as decoration.
Not a themed room.
A space with a presence of its own.
THE RESULT
The skybox became more than a place to watch the game.
It functions as a distinctive setting for business hospitality, meetings and matchday experiences, while offering guests a stronger connection to the culture and identity of both club and city.
By translating a local story into a spatial experience, the project demonstrates how hospitality can become an expression of place.
Rather than hosting guests in a generic hospitality environment, the skybox creates a stronger connection to the club, the city and the culture that surrounds it.
The identity of Rotterdam is not explained.
It is experienced.
